OK, OK, so maybe this is not in the City of Philadelphia. Alright, it’s not even in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. But, it is close enough for Kim and I to take a trek out to Robinsville, NJ and grab some pizza. What? You are not in the mood for pizza? Then don’t go to De Lorenzo’s Tomato Pies because that is pretty much all they have. Yes, they have some salads and soda (BYOB) but that is it.

When we sat down, grabbed the menu and saw that there was only pizza and salad on the menu, we were not happy. Quite frankly, Kim was not in the mood for pizza and she was going to get pasta. Well, you are stuck with pizza only.

We started out with a mixed green salad. Salad at a pizza joint is usually pretty disappointing. But, we were wrong again. This salad was not just fresh, cold and tasty, it was huge. Plenty to feed two people. It had mixed greens, fresh apples, candied walnuts and it just popped with flavor. A great start.

We based our order on the waiters recommendation. Large pepperoni. I’m generally not a huge fan of pepperoni, but I was willing to give it a try. All of the pizzas are made to order, so we had to wait about 15 minutes for the pie.

The pizza arrived hot, crazy hot. Steaming, crazy, lava hot. It also was not cut in the traditional “pie” slices, instead using a knife it was cut in squares. Very unusual, but acceptable. It is hard to define what the crust was like on this pizza, as it is what makes this a great pie. I would say it is as good, if not better then Tacconelli’s Pizza in Port Richmond. There, I said it, it’s right up there with what some consider the best pizza in the city. Oh, and they actually have dough available anytime, unlike Tac’s. Kim does not eat crust, ever. I’ve never seen her eat it. So, when I took my first bite of the pizza and tried the crust, I had a slight smile because I knew I would reap the spoils of her non-crust eating ways. Wrong again. This crust was so light and tasty, that even Kim ate it. That, my readers, is a good crust.

The pizza itself was darn good, but the crust was great. Really, really great. Crispy, light and slightly burnt. The pepperoni was a bit sparse, but acceptable.

Yes, it is out in the middle of nowhere with customers that are wannabee New Yorkers living in central Jersey. Use it as an excuse to visit Wegman’s in Princeton, that store is worth the trip as well.
