Let’s face it, a Japanese buffet is not very common. Typically, an Asian food buffet is chock full of Won Ton soup, General Tsos chicken and egg rolls. But, Minado is quite different.

AS you walk in to the expansive dining room, you are quickly whisked away to a seat and asked for drink order from the wait staff. Kim and I ordered drinks and immediately went to take a walk around the immense buffet tables.

Well, what can you say about this place? On a Friday or Saturday or night, there is at least a 45 minute wait, the bar is packed full of people and the noise is deafening. Yet somehow, when I get a hankering for some Mexican food, this is the only place to go. Maybe its the margaritas or the incredible mix of Philadelphia “folk”, but I just love this place. With the introduction of the no-smoking law in Philadelphia, the bar scene is just about acceptable – before you’d get smoked out as you enter the door. So, on to enjoying your meal at Mexican Post…

Well, another year, another birthday celebration. As my brother and I have gotten older, we have been relegated to a combined birthday celebration dinner out. This year, it was at McCormick & Schmick’s. Overall, it was not a bad meal, just not a great meal and certainly not worthy of the price. The highlight of the visit was the semi-private space you are given for celebrations or parties. They are upstairs and you are free to be load and bring gifts, with no concern of disturbing any other guests.

Kim and I were hankering for some Pho. We normally make our way down to Pho Ha in South Philly. But, we were meeting some folks in Northern Liberties and didn’t want to go all the way to South Philly, so we decided to five Vietnam a try. We had reservations but still had to wait upstairs in the bar for about 15 minutes waiting for our table. But, it gave us an excuse to try some Vietnamese beers and check out the decor. Both are excellent, BTW.

I’m not a huge sushi fan. I’ll get a couple rolls for lunch maybe every 2 months as a treat to my palate. After experiencing Blue Fin for the third time a few weeks ago, I now understand why people become addicted to the stuff.

I’ve eaten at Morimoto, Buddakan , Genji, Hikaru, you name it. I’ve eaten some of the best sushi in the city. I think Blue Fin is better. How dare I say this? It’s easy and I’ll explain why:
